So you’re considering starting therapy…
I don’t have all the answers, and I will never claim to. I got into therapy because I want people to know they’re not alone in their pain. Our society is not built to facilitate connection but promotes isolationism. I am an empathetic person who believes healing happens through connection, story telling, feeling deeply, and a lot of hard work.
Logistics of working with Nurtured Soul…
I am exclusively a virtual provider and, thus, it is important to have a private location, secure internet access, and a phone, tablet, or computer. If you are a new parent, know that we can discuss whether or not it would be helpful to have your baby in session.
Am I the right therapist for you?
Just as you are unique, all therapists have different approaches and skills they bring to their practice. It’s so important that you have confidence that you’ve made the right decision before spending your time, money, and energy.
The secret to successful therapy is having a therapist who you can trust, who is nonjudgmental, and who is committed to walking alongside you as you work towards authentic living.
Studies have shown that aside from a client’s motivation, the relationship between a therapist and client is one of the most important elements of a successful outcome derived from therapy.
While I am highly trained in mental health, I am not the expert on your life. You are! This means that our work together is highly collaborative.
Practice Values
-
Trauma informed work means actively seeking out consent and intentionally creating a space where people feel safe enough to participate in emotional work.
-
I practice Health at Every Size (HAES), and I am actively anti-diet culture. This means that focusing on other determinants of health (e.g., mindful movement, mindful eating, self-acceptance, having a supportive and accepting community, having access to the resources you need) is more likely to create overall health benefits than focusing on weight alone.
-
I am committed to anti-racist work. I hold an actively anti-racist stance and am committed to doing my own work to examine where my privilege as a white person leads me to preserving white supremacy. I stand in support of BIPOC and AAPI communities. I am committed to continuing to learn and educate myself on how to best support people with different lived experiences than my own.
-
I am committed to dialectical thinking and seeing from other people’s perspectives—as long as those perspectives do not actively undermine other people’s right to live and exist in the world.
-
Openness to learning is key. It is incredibly important to me to keep learning, seeking out consultation, and integrating new research and information so that I can offer the level of therapy and support you deserve.
Are you the right client for me?
Are you able to commit to scheduled therapy sessions for the next 3-12 months?
Are you willing to try out strategies we discuss during sessions outside of therapy?
Change will require more than one hour a week of work.
I will suggest resources (e.g., supplemental videos, podcasts, books and articles) and encourage clients to practice skills and techniques in between sessions. This allows you to get the most out of your treatment and helps you hone your skills!
Together we will determine whether the reason you’re seeking treatment falls within my scope of practice!
Therapy is an investment in you, your future, and your peace. Please review my fee schedule. I can’t think of a better investment - you are worth it.
Initial assessment - $180
Weekly sessions - $130
Sessions
Whether this is your first time starting therapy or you are looking at starting with a new provider, it is important to understand what to expect from our sessions.
Consultation
I offer free a 15-minute no obligation phone consultation to get to know a little bit about you, your goals for therapy, and whether your challenges are within my scope of practice. It also gives you a chance to ask me questions and get to know a little more about me as a therapist.
If we determine together that we’d like to move forward, I’ll send the intake paperwork to you to complete. Please note: All intake paperwork must be completed prior to scheduling the first session.
Session #1 - The Intake Session
We will review your intake paperwork together.
I recognize that therapy intake paperwork takes time to complete and can be very overwhelming. During this part of the session, I clarify information provided in the paperwork and discuss my policies. I also like to use the intake paperwork to start getting to know you.
We get to work!
You’re eager to start feeling better, so we get started mapping out how we can work together to get you there. We’ll discuss your goals for therapy more deeply and come up with a treatment plan to achieve them.
Ongoing Sessions
Sessions are generally 50-55 min in duration.
Check in
We check in to see how you’ve been since our last session and if anything important has come up. It’s a great transition into therapy.
Focus
We determine the agenda for the session and dive in. We review homework and talk about any realizations or feelings that came up.
Review + Setting Intentions for the Upcoming Week
It’s often helpful to reflect on what was discussed during the session, if there were any realizations you made, and get feedback on therapy overall. This is the point where we discuss any homework or activities that are assigned for the coming week and the purpose for giving them a try.
